Christmas From A Distance
The 2020 Christmas Parade will be celebrated as a Reverse Christmas Parade in the Outlets at Hillsboro parking lot on Saturday, December 5th beginning at 6:30pm. This event is a combined effort of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, Hillsboro Main Street Program, Hillsboro Independent School District, and the Hillsboro Department of Public Safety. Businesses and local groups are encouraged to participate as in a normal year. The theme for this year’s parade is, “Christmas From a Distance.” Entries are encouraged to contribute to the theme by decorating their spaces as Christmas from another era of time or from a different country.
The reverse parade will see businesses and organizations set up in the parking spaces of the Outlets at Hillsboro with a driving path for the community to drive through while keeping socially distanced. Those coming through the parade are asked to remain in their vehicles at all times and parade entries will deliver goodies to your car.
Each year we partner with the Ted Whitley Optimist Club of Hillsboro to support their Christmas for Kids program, which collects toys for local Hillsboro children and families that need a little extra help in making the holiday season special. The Optimist Club will be at the entry to the reverse parade accepting donations of unwrapped toys.
For businesses, groups, and individuals wishing to submit an entry for the reverse parade, please fill out the registration form in today’s newspaper, stop by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, or you may go to www.hillsboromainstreet.org/Christmas to register online. The cost for entry is a donated toy for the Christmas for Kids program. Please register for the event before December 1st so that we will have time to assign spaces for each entry.
During the day from 3pm to 6pm on December 5th, prior to the start of the reverse parade, downtown will host the first “Nutcracker Rides Again.” This event will feature horse riders in Nutcracker costumes scattered throughout downtown. Everyone is encouraged to visit downtown Hillsboro to take photos and enjoy the entertainment along with the great shops and restaurants.
