May 9, 2020

Noon - 6pm

Hillsboro Main Street is excited to announce a brand new event coming up on May 9th.  Churrofest is going to be an event celebrating one of Texas’s favorite treats.  More than a dozen professional food trucks, restaurants, and bakeries have been invited to participate in this first annual event to claim the title of Best Churro in Texas.  There will also be an amateur category for locals who think they might be the best Homemade Churro Cook in Texas.  Contestants will also be selling their churros to the general public.

As if you need more of an excuse than churros to come to the event, there will be food vendors representing the regional cuisines of Mexico so you can go enjoy a “Culinary Tour of Mexico.”  Pretty much every beloved Mexican food will be available.

Everything will kick off at 11am with the Latino Heritage Parade.  We encourage all Hillsboro organizations, families, and churches to participate by entering a float, classic or custom car, playing music, demonstrating traditional dances, or showing off your beloved pets, horses, burros, and more.

There will be a great lineup of entertainment throughout the day with the highly acclaimed Le Theatre de Marionette (fresh off their residency at the State Fair of Texas) bringing their marionette variety show, “Silly Strings,” to downtown.  You’ll be able to enjoy an assortment of storybook characters such as Belle and Beast along with Luke and Darth Vader.  There will also be puppet jugglers, balloon blowers, and trapeze acts.  The show runs approximately 30 minutes from 12:30pm to 1:00pm.  Trust us, you will not want to miss this show.

At this time, we are still working to confirm our other performers, including a mariachi band, traditional dance group, and a headline performer for the evening.

We are asking downtown business owners to get in the Churrofest spirit by decorating their storefronts to celebrate the Latino heritage of Hillsboro.  The Main Street Board will be picking the winner for this year’s best Churrofest storefront and the business will be featured prominently on our Facebook page.

For the kids, we will also have free inflatable rides to keep them having fun throughout the day.  For parents and adults, there will be a Mexican style vendor market and a great presentation from the Hillsboro High School Spanish Club on Latino culture, heritage, and the countries that make up the Latin world.

Churrofest will be open from Noon until 6pm (note times may be subject to change) and will be located around the Hill County Courthouse Square.  There are many details still to come for this exciting event, so be sure to follow Hillsboro Main Street on Facebook.
